beliefs in brief

a short list of my philisophies in life.
(this is something i wrote for my DEVC 70, interpesonal communication, class.)

i believe ...

in believing.
“Milk for my cereal, Coffeemate for my coffee. Makes sense to me.”

we need to recycle paper.
As much as we have to conserve water. Our resources are running out. We are slowly allowing human activities to destroy the nature we get everything we need to live from. And believe me, that’s not a good thing.

it’s useless to feel bitter when you can feel better.
It’s bad enough to feel bad already, why make it worse. Optimism is looking on the bright side, and no wonder they call it bright. Wallowing in self-pity and hatred is just plain sad, and tiring. It takes more muscles to frown than it takes to smile. It’s much better feeling good about yourself and thinking of what you could do better than to plan a revenge plot. It is normal to feel bad, but making it a habit isn’t advisable. Make amends, or at least forgive if not forget, and feel good for doing so. Life goes on.

in luck.
It happens. I just hope I get lucky. Some people do get lucky, are lucky, whatever. Why is lady luck a she?

in magic.
It may not exactly be the kind of magic where fairy godmother waves her wand and a ragged Cinderella becomes a princess (to my childhood dream’s disappointment) but hey, magic does exist. Magicians pull a rabbit out of a top hat and make kids believe that they actually can. Candles are blown to make wishes come true. It may sound cheesy, but it’s in all of us. We can make the magic in our lives and the lives of others happen if we wanted to.

in the supernatural.
Fairies, witches, human spirits, nature spirits, signs and all the “power” they hold. Call me crazy, it doesn’t matter.

god exists.
Well at least one of them does. I mean, how would the world go round without it (no gender bias)?

karma.
Newton’s law of action and reaction says it all. In mathematical terms that would translate to 1=1 or 1:1. Let me put it this way, ‘pag binigyan kita ng piso, babalik din sa’kin yun…one day. (but on monetary levels, wouldn’t it be better to look to the wiccan rede? because it translates to: ‘pag binigyan kita ng piso, babalik sa’kin tatlo :) just kidding). One is to one, that’s how it should be, no more no less. 2 people are meant for each other, not three. One good deed is equal to another. If you give it your #1 effort, well, hope for a #1 grade. (hint hint :))

butterflies are spirits.

all work and no play makes [jena] a dull girl.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not spend my days studying all the time. In fact I’m your procrastination personified. I try my best to enjoy my life, make the best out of what I have and have fun. However cheesy it may sound, life is beautiful and seeing that is just great. We only get one life, and in “forever” terms that’s short.

the past, the present and the future were divided for a reason.
We learn from the past, we make it happen in this present, and we look forward to the future and hope it will be good because of what we did today. That’s a wrap form the history classes, but its true.

in doing good for others.

there is room for improvement.
There is no such thing as perfect. They say practice makes perfect, but since there’s no such thing as perfect, why practice? Because you get better with practice, not necessarily perfect, but better than before. We learn something new each day, and each day gives us the opportunity to do something worthwhile.

people are naturally good.

imagination is a gift.
Not many people have such wild imaginations, the kind of imaginations that take you places, time periods, and everywhere else. It’s just amazing to think where you can go and what you can do, if only you had the money. Having a happy imagination makes life more colorful, don’t you think?

love shouldn’t be blind.
But I wouldn’t really know, would I?

in deviation, being unique.
Others kasi ako, others ang arrive (iba kasi ako, iba ang dating). It’s useless to be like everyone else. Although we need to feel a sense of belonging to make us normal, we need to have our own identities which make us unique personality-wise as much as we are genetically. Now, how different is being different from being unique? I guess it’s just the sound of it. Being different makes it seem like you’ve got some psychological problem or something, especially if it comes from someone else.

knowledge is power.
Let me guess why military intelligence is so top secret. Yes people, we are in the information age, and processed information has a heavy price and a power. “With great power comes great responsibility.” It’s just great to know so much, but not to the point your head explodes either out of greed for power or an information overload. If knowledge is power, then reading is knowledge. Well it’s gaining knowledge. I think reading and a love to read gives people an edge over others, not only in the information gained, but also the use of language.

organizing is good for the mind.
They call me OC, the local term for being an organized person, but not necessarily obsessive compulsive. The principle is quite simple. If I can’t see things in order, how the hell are they supposed to get in order inside my head?

time is gold.
What if you could pay for time? Sure there is a lot of money in time. It’s just too bad there’s no way to get it back. Sayang, there’s a big market out there. The point is that we can’t get time back. This is the reason why we value it so much. Let me rephrase, this is the reason why we have to value it so much. Procrastination is a perfect example. [guilty].
